NCAA Soccer: Helen Alormenu brace helps Texas State upend Baylor University

US-based Ghanaian midfielder Helen Alormenu scored twice, including a spectacular 57-yard strike, as Texas State defeated Baylor University 3-1 on Sunday night.

Matsuri Tsutsui gave Texas State an early lead in the second minute after intercepting a pass outside the box before firing into the left corner.

Baylor responded quickly to level the score, but Alormenu restored the Bobcats’ advantage with her first goal of the season.

Ava Kooker provided the assist, finding Alormenu in a good position to finish from close range and put Texas State back in front.

The Ghanaian then produced the standout moment of the match in the 72nd minute.

Alormenu intercepted the ball near the centre line before spotting the Baylor goalkeeper off her line. She unleashed a spectacular effort from about 57 yards that sailed over the goalkeeper and into the net.

The brace sealed a 3-1 victory for Texas State and marked Alormenu’s first two-goal game since August last year, when she scored twice against Our Lady of the Lake.

The performance gives the Ghana international an impressive start to the season in the United States.
