Dutch-Ghanaian defender Leeroy Owusu makes Bnei Sakhnin switch from Odense BK

The 30-year-old defender completes the move after three years in Denmark, where he helped Odense win the Danish second tier in 2025. Owusu arrives at Bnei Sakhnin as the club’s latest addition in the Ligat ha’Al, having made the switch on 14 September 2026.

Owusu began his career in the Netherlands with Purmersteijn before entering Ajax’s youth system in 2004. He progressed through the club’s academy and was part of the Ajax Under-17 side that won the Dutch Under-17 title in 2013. A year later, he helped Ajax Under-19 claim the Dutch Under-19 championship.

The right-back moved into senior football through loan spells with Excelsior and Almere City during the 2016-17 and 2017-18 seasons. He then left Ajax Under-21 for De Graafschap in August 2018, establishing his next stage of club football in the Netherlands.

Owusu joined Willem II from De Graafschap in July 2020 for a fee of €325,000. Three years later, he moved to Odense BK on a free transfer, beginning his spell in Denmark that culminated in the second-tier title in 2025.

His move to Bnei Sakhnin represents a return to the Israeli top flight, with the club competing in the 2026-27 Ligat ha’Al campaign. Owusu has yet to make an appearance in the competition this season, having joined after the campaign had begun.

The defender has been valued at €1m and is predominantly a right-footed full-back. He was born in Purmerend and holds Dutch and Ghanaian nationality.

Owusu’s career has included football in the Netherlands and Denmark, with early development at Ajax followed by spells at Excelsior, Almere City, De Graafschap, Willem II and Odense BK. He now continues that journey with Bnei Sakhnin on a free transfer, with his new contract running until June 2027.
