Ghanaian midfielder Christopher Bonsu Baah provided an assist as Al-Qadsiah defeated Al Wasl 2-1 in the AFC Champions League Elite at EGO Stadium.
The result gave the Saudi club a winning start to their continental campaign after a tense encounter in Dammam.
The match was goalless at halftime, with both teams struggling to turn possession into clear chances. Al-Qadsiah eventually broke the deadlock in the 57th minute when Julian Quinones finished a move created by Baah. The Ghanaian’s contribution gave the hosts the breakthrough they needed.
Al-Qadsiah doubled their lead four minutes later. Mateo Retegui struck in the 61st minute after receiving assistance from Mohammed Abu Al-Shamat, putting the home side in control.
Al Wasl refused to surrender and continued pushing forward during the closing stages. Their persistence paid off in the sixth minute of added time, when Leandro Leite reduced the deficit with a right-footed finish assisted by Pedro Malheiro. However, Al-Qadsiah held firm through the remaining moments to secure victory.
Al-Qadsiah will now prepare for their Saudi Pro League meeting with Al-Kholood on October 9.
