Esbjerg fB have strengthened their frontline with the signing of Ghanaian striker James Ampofo, who arrives from Norwegian side IK Start on a contract running until 2029.
The 22-year-old brings pace, power and a direct style that EfB believe can give their attack a new edge.
Ampofo has already shown he can be effective in Norway. Before moving to Start, he scored six goals in 12 matches for Raufoss, earning a move to Strømsgodset and later a spell on loan at Start. Since January 2026, he has featured regularly and recently started three straight games, which underlines his growing importance.
EfB sporting director Sebastian Brydegaard described him as an exciting offensive signing with experience from the top Norwegian level. He also praised Ampofo’s energy, work rate and personality, saying those traits fit the club’s identity.
Ampofo was equally enthusiastic about the move. He said he is happy to join a club he has heard positive things about and is eager to begin a new chapter in Denmark.
He also said he wants to give everything for the team, use his attacking qualities and help Esbjerg win matches. The striker will wear the number 9 shirt as he prepares for life at Blue Water Arena.
