The 33-year-old defensive midfielder has signed a contract running until 30 June 2027. Partey’s move to Al-Shabab was completed on 21 August 2026, after one season with Villarreal.
Partey joined the Spanish club from Arsenal as a free agent on 7 August 2025. Before that, he spent five seasons with Arsenal, making 130 Premier League appearances, scoring nine goals and providing five assists.
His career in Spain began with Atletico Madrid, where he developed through the club’s system before establishing himself in the first team. He made 188 La Liga appearances, scoring 16 goals and registering seven assists, while also featuring 49 times in the Champions League.
Partey was part of the Atletico side that won the Europa League in 2017-18 and claimed the Uefa Super Cup in 2018. He also helped the Madrid club win the Spanish title in 2020-21, before moving to Arsenal in October 2020 for €50m.
At Arsenal, Partey won the English Super Cup in 2023-24. His time in European football also included a Champions League runners-up finish with Atletico in 2015-16.
The Ghana international arrives at Al-Shabab after appearing three times for his country at the 2026 World Cup. He started 75% of Ghana’s possible matches at the tournament and played 75% of the available minutes.
Partey has also had spells with Almeria and Mallorca on loan during his early career, while his senior development included Atletico’s reserve side, Atletico Madrileno. His record covers appearances in La Liga, the Premier League, the Champions League, the Europa League and domestic cup competitions.
The midfielder is listed at 1.85m and prefers his right foot. His market value at the time of the move was €2m, following a career high of €50m.
Partey’s free transfer from Villarreal to Al-Shabab is complete, with his new contract lasting until June 2027.
