The Black Queens of Ghana are set for a tough encounter against Cameroon at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) today, Sunday, August 2.
The Queens head into the crucial encounter sitting top of the Group D standings after their opening victory against Cape Verde.
The team is, however, level on points with Cameroon, who also beat Mali in their first game at the tournament.
With top spot and a qualification to the knockout stage at stake, both teams have prepared well and will battle for the maximum points.
Speaking ahead of the contest, Black Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegeren admitted his side will be facing a very good opponent.
“We're going to play against a good Cameroon team. A Cameroon team with experienced players, with quality. They have a good balance. They also have young, hungry players. I know Dimitri has also been coming into the team. I guess that will help them as well — they're going to be potentially more organised,” the coach said at his pre-match press conference.
He added, “I think it's going to be a tough one, but like always, I’m starting to know the girls very well now, and I believe in them. I also know when the opponent is more difficult to play against, it normally means that we play a better game. For me personally, pressure doesn't exist.”
Sunday’s Group D showdown between Ghana and Cameroon is scheduled to kick off at 17:00GMT at the Moulay Rachid Stadium.
