The Ministry of Sports and Recreation has settled the per diem for the Ghana U20 women’s team, the Black Princesses, specifically for their final-round qualifying matches against Uganda.
This payment comes in the wake of the team’s successful qualification for the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
However, the resolution is only partial, as allowances for the penultimate qualifying round against South Africa remain unpaid, per Joy Sports.
According to reports, the squad had taken a firm stance by refusing to vacate their hotel camp in Accra before this settlement.
Despite the GFA providing a GHS 500 token as a temporary stipend upon their return from Kampala, the players remained concerned that leaving the camp will lead to the Ministry neglecting the outstanding debt.
It is unclear if the players will leave camp after his part payment.
The Black Princesses secured their World Cup berth following a 2-1 victory in Accra and a resilient 1-1 draw in Uganda.
While the settlement for the Uganda leg marks progress, the standoff highlights recurring financial tensions between national teams and the Ministry.
Following their hard-fought qualification against Uganda, the Black Princesses have been drawn into a challenging Group C for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland.
They are set to face off against European powerhouse France, the technically disciplined South Korea, and a rising Ecuador side.
