Retired Kenya captain Victor Wanyama has set his sights on a coaching career, revealing that he intends to complete his UEFA A Licence before moving into club management.
The 34-year-old, who announced his retirement from professional football on April 3, confirmed that he will immediately transition into coaching after an 18-year playing career that spanned four countries and six clubs.
"Hopefully, I will be done with that and then I look forward to moving to club coaching⦠and working with young players⦠something like that," Wanyama said.
The former Tottenham and Southampton midfielder completed his UEFA B licence in Northern Ireland in 2025 and is now working toward the higher qualification. The UEFA A licence requires 180 hours of education covering advanced tactics, match analysis, and team management.
Wanyama, who earned 64 caps for Kenya and captained the Harambee Stars, has made it clear that his ultimate goal is to coach at the highest level, not just in Kenya but in Europe.
"My dream is to coach in Europe. That has to be my goal," he previously told the Daily Mail.
He already runs a football foundation in Nairobi where he works with young players and sees that as a natural starting point.
"I see working with the younger generation as the initial way forward for me; then we will see."
The boy from Muthurwa who carried a nation's pride onto the pitch now hopes to inspire the next generation from the sidelines.
