National Sports Authority boss Yaw Ampofo Ankrah has thrown his weight behind Andre Ayew's inclusion in Ghana's World Cup squad, insisting the veteran forward remains invaluable to the Black Stars.
"If Andre Dede Ayew is fit, he should be included in the Black Stars squad for the World Cup because he is Ghana's most experienced player," Ankrah said.
The 36-year-old, who recently scored his first goal for Dutch side NAC Breda, has been a subject of debate among fans and pundits over whether he should be part of Ghana's plans for the 2026 tournament.
Ayew is Ghana's most capped player and has featured in multiple World Cups and Africa Cup of Nations tournaments.
Ankrah argued that experience of that magnitude cannot be overlooked, especially in high-pressure tournament settings.
With a new head coach expected to be appointed soon, Ayew's fate remains uncertain. But for Ankrah, the decision is simple: if fit, the captain material must travel.
Ghana have been drawn in Group L alongside England, Croatia, and Panama and will open their campaign on June 17 in Toronto. The final 26-man squad is expected to be named in the coming weeks.
